Real-Time PCR

What is Real-Time PCR Testing?

Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, known as quantitative q-PCR, is a technique used to amplify and detect specific DNA or RNA sequences in real time. This method enables a more accurate diagnosis, as opposed to the conventional methods of testing that can take days or weeks, including traditional culture-based tests. By utilizing PCR testing, healthcare providers can expect highly accurate identification of infections as well as guidance on the appropriate treatment for that patient’s infection. Which, in turn, enables the patient to receive appropriate treatment, the first time.

PCR Molecular Testing Advantages

Valuable for detecting specific pathogens that are difficult to culture in vitro or require a long incubation period.

In most cases, RT-PCR provides faster turnaround times than culture.

Enables earlier informed decision making.

Known as the gold standard.

Timely diagnosis of bacteremia, particularly for low levels of bacteria in specimens.

Useful in detecting cases in extra-pulmonary specimens which may be missed by culture.

PCR is a valuable diagnostic tool in assisting physicians in the diagnosis of disease.

PCR technology allows clinicians to promptly identify causative agents and initiate targeted therapy.

We specialize in PCR Molecular panel testing with 24-48 hour results. With high accuracy and specificity, PCR testing is considered the gold standard of molecular testing.
